Meditation Magic

For the last 5 weeks I have been meditating every day. As soon as I wake up, I open my curtains and start a guided meditation. Every day is different so it can range from 5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on how I feel and how much time I have.

It sets me up for the day and I have noticed a real difference in how I feel after and how awake I feel, no lingering tiredness. I probably only realised how powerful my meditation practice was to me last weekend. I woke up and saw a message on my phone and decided to look at it instead of ignoring it until after I had meditated. Big mistake, I was just asked to do a simple work task, but I went straight into panic and lots of mind chatter about how I am not good enough and trying to do the task when I was still half asleep. I stopped, took a moment and thought, you need to meditate. So that is what I did 12 minutes of a guided meditation with lots of deep breathing and when I had finished, I completed the task with a clear mind and no panic. How amazing is that? In 12 tiny minutes I felt centred and calm, panic over.

Meditation is such an important part of our YogaBears practice and is done in every class. The kids love it and always say how nice and calm they feel and lots of the time how sleepy they feel 😊 Yesterday I was in a school I visit every week and I had a new class and at the end one of the little girls came up to me and said “Thank you I feel so calm now because sometimes school stresses me out, but I now feel relaxed” this little girl was 8 years old. I Could not imagine being that young and feeling stressed or even knowing what that word meant, but this I feel is the modern world we live in now. And that is why I believe meditation is even more important than ever in the current climate. If we can give these tools to children at such a young age, as they grow older, they may find it easier to deal with a stressful situation or an anxiety that may appear. Meditation is just so powerful. I love this quote from the Dalai Lama:

“If every 8-year-old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world in one generation”

If you think reading this that meditation is something you could never do, remember that you can make anything a meditation. You do not have to be lying down or be still. You can also do moving meditations; you can make mealtime and a walk into a meditation. There are so many options to choose from always chose what is best for you because we are all different and something that works for one might not for another and that is ok. Meditation can help reduce negative emotions and allow us to focus on the present moment. I can promise that from my own experience and feedback from students that introducing this into your daily life and self-care practice will 100% make all the difference and create a sense of peace and harmony in your body 😊

Have a beautiful week.

Love & Magic Always
